Whether it’s car phones or talking robots, the latest and greatest in technology has always captured the imagination. The rate of innovation is so fast, though, it can be hard to keep up with everything that’s out there. Here are the top nine mind blowing technologies you perhaps didn’t know already existed.
1. Universal Translators
Can you imagine being able to communicate effortlessly to people from any country, speaking any language? SIGMO is starting create that reality with its pocket translator. It currently converts speech in twenty-five languages. You wear the device on your wrist and press a button when you, or someone else speaks and it will translate the conversation.
2. Mobile Platforms
It’s hard to imagine life without our mobile devices, and that is what makes Qualcomm’s Snapdragon mobile platforms some of the most exciting technology around. Simply put, these mobile platforms make your devices better, with processors that allow for breakneck speed, quick charge capabilities, superior connectivity, security features and immersive AR and VR experiences.
3. Electronic Skin
Electronic skin, or e-skin, is a thin material that mimics human skin, using solar cells that can stretch and heal themselves. E-skin is used primarily in monitoring health and to increase the sensitivity of robots. While e-skin is not a mainstream product, researchers at Stanford and UC Berkley, have both developed a version of e-skin.
4. LED Sleep Mask
For people who have problems sleeping, a workable sleep solution is really life changing. Newly debuted at CES 2018, the $100 Dreamlight Sleep Mask emits orange LED lights that will help you fall asleep quicker and stay asleep longer.
5. Rollable TV
Imagine watching the big game on your 65-inch OLED TV and then rolling it up and hiding it away. LG premiered a concept TV that does just that, signaling that folding screens are about to be the next big thing.
6. Noise Blocking Device
If you’ve ever lived in a big city, next to a busy highway, or across the street from a construction site, you understand how truly mind-blowing the Sono noise blocking device really is. Sono is attached to windows and produces anti-vibrations that cancel outside noises.
7. Lightweight eBike
Foldable bikes have been used by travelers for years — the problem being they are often heavy, cumbersome and not easy to ride. The Smacircle is a bicycle that weighs only 15 lbs, can fold small enough to fit into a backpack, and can be locked using your phone.
8. Robot Maid
Imagine if your Roomba not only vacuumed, but also picked up after you, and kept your house clean while you were gone. The Aeolus robot may just be a prototype now, but the possibilities of a robot housekeeper/security guard are too exciting to not mention.
9. Stair Climbing Wheelchair
The Scewo Stair Climbing Wheelchair uses self-balancing technology and rubber tracks only the wheels to climb and descend any set of stairs. The chair is compact enough for everyday use. A climbing chair opens up a world that is often not designed for people with mobility issues.
From devices that improve our health to technology that makes our lives more efficient to really cool televisions, there is always something new and exciting to discover from the tech world.
