Could You Launch a Gaming Blog?

Nowadays, most of us know someone with a blog. There are millions of blogs out there, with new posts published every second and new sites launched all of the time. Gamers make money writing blogs, but also using video streaming sites and a small minority of these do it very successfully. You might have seen gamers with their own accessories, clothing lines, books and even TV shows and you might wonder if you could do the same.

Launching a gaming blog can be a great way to meet new people, learn new skills and help others to develop a great hobby. You could improve your own skills, and make important connections. It might even one day open up other doors for you, leading to a great career doing something that you love. But, it’s not going to be easy. Here are some of the things that you should ask yourself before you jump in.

Why Do You Want to?

Why do you want to start a gaming blog? There’s a big difference between someone who wants to blog as a hobby, writing about the games that they enjoy playing and enjoying any samples or recognition that you might get as a bonus and someone who wants to turn their gaming blog into a career — making a steady income, utilizing different income streams and continually finding new ways to make money.

Knowing which you want to be helps you to set goals and manage your time. If it’s a hobby, you won’t want to commit too many hours, give up other things, or spend too much money on it. But, if you’re going to turn it into a career, you’ll have to.

Of course, that doesn’t mean that you can’t change your mind later. Some of the best bloggers, in gaming and other niches, started out as hobbies and grew into something else naturally and many people that aimed for a career gave up. But, it’s good to have a vague idea what you want before you start.

Do You Have The Equipment?

You can play games on most devices going nowadays, and most of us have lost hours on smartphone games. But, if you want to be a blogger, you need more. Look at the latest equipment for gamers and consider an rtx 2080 before you get started.

Do You Have the Time?

Blogging takes time. There’s more to it than just playing games and writing about it. There are photos and videos, SEO and social media and the more that you learn, the more there is to do. Ask yourself if you’ve really got time to turn an exciting way to pass the time into something else.

Are You Prepared to Fail?

Most bloggers give up within the first few years, when their blog doesn’t grow as well as they’d hope, or keeping it up just becomes too much. If you think that millions of people will read your first post or watch your first video, you are probably going to be wrong. Be prepared for a lot of time and hard for before you start to gain a following, and for it not to happen at all.
